the included sound sources were recorded replicating composer Steve Reichs early experiments with tape. Recording a simple arrhythmic structure in C, we overdubbed the recording with a small cut, creating a phasing effect. This was repeated multiple times until the resulting audio produced something akin to granular, but altogether different. All the recordings were made using a single pitch and are tuned to c, so you can play the instrument like any other. 

Behind the scenes, whenever you play a note the play position is randomised, meaning every note creates a new phase of its own. Every sound source utilises one sample with no time stretching – so play a higher note, the sample speeds up, and vice versa. This results in further phased overlaps, so no chord ever sounds the same.
