the pitch imperfections of the tape format are all stunningly reproduced in DRIFT, with control of WOW, Flutter and Fail. Impart the slow wobble of WOW and the randomness of Flutter, then add Fail, our algorithm dedicated to folds in the tape that cause volume dropouts and audio artefacts. the higher ‘fail’ is, the more frequent the errors are.Â
Drift faithfully emulates the rich, harmonic saturation of vintage tape machines, allowing users to infuse their audio with that sought-after analog warmth. from smashed drums to screeching guitars and synths, our saturation model sounds great out of the box. turn up the heat!
drift is designed to faithfully reproduce the sound of the tape format, so it only made sense for us to include EQ profiles analysed from 8 tape sources. instantly switch between them to quickly colour your sound with the eq profile of cassettes, VHS tapes, handheld recorders and more. narrow the stereo width and add tape noise to taste for further colouration.

tape start & stop
when you stop a tape machine, the tape doesn’t stop instantly – it decreases in pitch as it comes to a stop, or slowly rises in pitch as it reaches the full play state. simply click the tape deck to recreate this effect. the slider underneath the player sets the time in seconds for the tape to start/stop.Â
tape failures
the quality of tape can introduce playback errors, such as intermittent volume drops caused by tape losing contact with the playback head. small audio artefacts caused by the tape getting stuck, crinkles in the tape or obstructions like dust are also common. with the ‘fail’ control, you can introduce these errors.
tape eq profiles
every tape has a slightly different sound, so we’ve analysed the eq profiles of 8 tape formats and machines, then placed them directly into the plugin. choose from multiple sources including cassette, VHS and reel to reel tape. multiple machines are also included – cassette multitracks, handheld recorders and a classic 80’s boombox.
